A New Term in English Language Education at Universities

According to the explanation made by Gazi University, the opening meeting of the project "Increasing the Online Exam Capacity of Teaching English as a Foreign Language Programs in Higher Education in Turkey" under the coordination of Gazi University with the support of the Office of Educational Attaché of the U.S. Embassy was held online.

Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız stated that they have carried out successful works with a big and devoted team to minimize the difficulties experienced in the transition to online systems due to Covid-19 and noted that they are open to the exchange of views to increase the potential in the field of foreign language education and to share the experiences of the School of Foreign Languages with other universities.

Emphasizing that they believe the project they are carrying out with the U.S. Office of Educational Attaché will benefit English language education, Prof. Dr. Yıldız said, "With the cooperation protocols we will sign with the participating universities, we will share our experiences and exchange views with them. We also aim to obtain new ideas and experiences and to provide mutual assistance."

The Director of the School of Foreign Languages of Gazi University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Celal Turgut Koç stated that they successfully held online foreign language exams without compromising the international standards in face-to-face education, and emphasized that they aim to increase the online language exam capacity of foreign language programs with this project.

Five universities attended the meeting.

The Rector of Bayburt University Prof. Dr. Mutlu Türkmen, the Rector of Hakkari University Prof. Dr. Ömer Pakiş, the Rector of Muş Alpaslan University Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat, the Rector of Samsun University Prof. Dr. Mahmut Aydın, the Vice-Rector of Yozgat Bozok University Prof. Dr. Şenol Akın on behalf of the Rector of Yozgat Bozok University Prof. Dr. Ahmet Karadağ, the Education Attaché of the U.S. Embassy Ankara Roger Cohen, and the faculty members of the universities participating in the project attended the meeting.

After the statements of the rectors of the participating universities related to cooperation, Specialist Dr. Bita Bookman from San Francisco Santa Rose University gave the first lecture on the project.
